
SVE 876, formative and summative evaluation of educational achievement and programmes is a first semester course designed for postgraduate students pursuing master’s degree in measurement and evaluation at the Godfrey Okoye University.
The course will include seven modules and cover 12 topics. The primary goal of this course is to introduce you to both formative and summative evaluation of educational achievement and programmes. Throughout the course, you will explore the definition, importance, functions, and types of educational evaluation, the Bloom’s Taxonomy of educational objectives, historical and theoretical foundations of educational evaluation; formative and summative evaluation, their principles, implementation, integration and impact on educational achievements; evaluation of educational programmes, its models and impact on teaching and learning; evaluating learning outcomes; and innovative approaches to formative and summative evaluation.
This course on formative and summative evaluation equips you with a comprehensive skill that is needed for effective educational measurement and evaluation. It prepares you with the ability to design, implement, and evaluate learning outcomes or educational achievements. Combining the learning of formative and summative evaluation offers a holistic approach to understanding and applying evaluation principles. Mastering both types of evaluation prepares you for various roles in education, such as, evaluator and researcher. The knowledge that will be gained in learning formative and summative evaluations will help you in the academic settings and in other specialized contexts.
