Introduction: This module deals with the discussion of history of phonetics, Segmental and supra-segmental features. Phonetics deals with the production of speech sounds by humans, often without prior knowledge of the language being spoken. Phonology is about patterns of sounds especially different patterns of sounds in different languages, or within each language, different patterns of sounds in different positions in words etc

Learning objective:- The objective of this module is to enable students to pronounce the English sounds properly with the correct tone and stress.                                                                         

Learning outcomes:- By the end of the lessons, students will be able to 1. Narrate the history of phonetics. 2. Discuss effectively Segmental and Supra-segmental features. 3. Use stress pattern to change words from one form to another. 4. Identify emphatic stress in sentences. 5. Write the functions of the International Phonetic Association (IPA).
