Optical System Design and Engineering
This course covers the principles of optical system design, including geometrical optics, aberrations, radiometry, and optical transmission. It explores key components such as optical sources, detectors, and focal plane arrays (FPAs). Students will learn about optical mechanics, system integration, and component specifications. The course also examines irradiation, dynamic range, and radiometric performance, with a focus on imaging metrics like ground resolved distance (GRD) and ground sample distance (GSD). By the end, students will be equipped to design and optimize optical systems for various applications.
