PSY 386: ENVIRONMENTAL PSYCHOLOGY

INTRODUCTION

In this course, we will discuss reciprocal relationship between the physical environment and human behavior. Humans depend on the physical environment for survival and sustenance and vice versa.   Our surroundings   play role in our general wellbeing and this necessitates study of its complex relationship with human behaviour.  We will discuss basic environmental psychology concepts, crowding, personal space, noise pollution, consequences of man- made environmental conditions on behavior and  management of  environmental problems.

Learning objectives

The objective of the course is to enable students understand beneficial and negative effects of man – made environmental conditions and the importance of environmental protection.

Learning Outcome

By the end of the lessons, students will be able to:

1. Explain the meaning of Environmental psychology.

2. Identify basic environmental psychology concepts such as perception, viewing, cognition, and decoding, environmental image.

3. Explain meaning of Environmental awareness.

4. Explain the relationship between environmental perception and behavior as well as  methods of measuring environmental perception.

5. Identify beneficial and negative effects of man – made environmental conditions..
