Physics is study of matter and its interaction with energy. To be able to do this some measurements need to be taken. This measurement is possible for quantities that have measurable physical properties and these quantities are called Physical quantities.
Physical quantities can be grouped into two: fundamental and derived quantities.
Fundamental quantities are independent of other quantities while derived quantities are dependent on other quantities for their derivation.
Fundamental quantities include mass, time, distance/length, temperature, amount of substance, luminous intensity and electric current.
Derived quantities include: area, volume, speed, velocity, acceleration, force, weight, e.t.c
This course is aimed at preparing/and or exposing students to the physical knowledge of the physical principles in different areas of Physics especially as related to their General Physics 1 (PHY 101)
