Theories of language development according to Chomsky, Skinner, Piaget and Vygotsky
Learning objective: The objective of this module is to produce students who will be fluent in reading with understanding and proficiency. Learning outcome: By the end of the lessons, the students will be able to do the following: 1. Discuss the concept of reading/reading act, types of reading and reading techniques. 2, discuss effectively reading readiness of a child and some factors that influence reading readiness of a child. 3. Identify and explain the theories of reading. 4. Enumerate and explain the guidelines for teaching reading. 5. Say how reading can lead to the development of vocabulary, syntax, communicative competence and comprehension. 6. Discuss language development according to the perspective of Charles Ferguson. 7. Explain the nature and importance of language.
