In this module, the teacher and the students will be looking at the following;- Definition of public speaking, audience, and persuasion. Functions of persuasion in public speaking. Theories of persuasion eg attitude change theory, consistency theory, relationship-based theory etc. Difference between persuasion and manipulation.. Linguistic skills for effective public speaking.
Learning objective; The objective of this module is to equip the students to become professionals in the preparation and delivery of public speaking.
Learning outcome;- By the end of the lessons, the students should be able to do the following;- (1). Define public speaking, audience, persuasion.( 2) Mention and explain two types of audience. (3) Discuss the functions of persuasion in public speaking. (4) Identify and explain the theories of persuasion in public speaking. (5) Discuss the linguistic skills for effective public speaking.
