Antibiotics and Antimicrobial agents, origin, development and future prospects, ethnomedical research, types of antibiotics and synthetic antimicrobial agents, natural antimicrobial agents, policies in ethnomedical research standardization of natural plant products, usage and control in pharmaceutical and hospital outfits. Prospects for novel drug discovery. Manufacture of and assessment of new antibiotics, principles and methods of antibiotic assay. Mechanism of action, and microbial resistance to antibiotics. Chemical disinfectants, antiseptics and preservatives. Evaluation of non-antibiotics/antimicrobial agents. Mode of action, resistance to non-antibiotic/antibacterial agents. Pharmaceutical products of microbial biotechnology. Microbial spoilage and preservation of pharmaceutical products. Contamination of non-sterile pharmaceuticals in hospitals and community environments. Principles of sterilization, control, sterility testing quality
